Message from the Director

As we are all aware of, molecular medicine is one of the core research fields in biomedical sicence which will be leading the 21st century. With the completion of human genome project the structures and functions of human genes are to be identified. This will definately lead to an era of molecular medicine whereby the role of genes and their abnormal functions can be identified for each disease
and most of diseases can be cured applying molecular therapy. With the development of new methods of diagnosing and treating various kinds of diseases at molecular level it seems that the greatest hope of human beings, conquering disases which could not be cured by exsisting medical treatments, can be realized in the 21st century.

In order to challenge this era of molecular medicine our center has accumulated research and development capabilities by carrying out research projects on the functions and identification of disease related genes and has successfully performed basic research works on the development of our unique molecular therapeutic vectors. As a result of such effort we were able to publish research papers in the prestigeous international journals and apply for domestic and overseas patent for the molecular therapeutic vectors we have developed.

Based on these research outcomes we have created our own core research team by carefully selecting basic and clinical researchers based on their research outputs and competencies in order to further develop our unique internationally competitive molecular therapy method in the coming years. We are trying to secure core research facilities aiming at becoming an internationally competitive molecular therapy research center. With this strategy we are sure that our center can reach world-class by concentrating on the development of gene elements and design and production of therapeutic vectors which can be used for molecular genetic mechanism and gene therapy of diseases.

We are striving to become one of the best world-class research centers in the field of molecular theray in this coming era of molecular medicine thereby contributing to the advancement of basic science and enhancement of the level of medical research in Korea and finally for the improvement of human health. Lastly, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Minstry of Sicence and Technology, Korea Sicence Foundation and Sungkyunkwan University for their utmost support in the establishment and development of our Molecular Therapy Research Center.
